Little Black Mountain Petroglyphs

The Little Black Mountain Site contains some outstanding petroglyphs, representing 6,000 years of human history. The site has over 500 individual rock-art designs and elements on boulders surrounding the base of a 500-foot mesa.

Getting There

If travelling from the I15 Interstate take Utah exit 2 east onto the Southern Parkway. Travel 3.3 miles to the Parkway exit 3 at the junction of the South River Road and the Mount Trumbell Loop Road. Travel south from here on the gravel Mount Trumbell Loop Road for 0.4 miles to the first road turning east. Follow this gravel road east for 4 miles to the marked parking lot for the Petroglyph site.

If travelling from St George take the South River Road to the Southern Parkway and continue as above.

Road Condition

The Mount Trumbbull Loop Road is a good gravel road that can be travelled year round with a two wheel vehicle.

The Petroglyphs

From the parking lot walk the trail east and west along the base of Little Black Mountain to see the rock art on vaious large boulders.
